This 40 plus hour course is designed for the patrol officer that wants to further his understanding of SWAT and its mission, the beginning SWAT Operator just entering the field, and the experienced operator wishing to learn new techniques. This course begins with the history of SWAT and its role in today’s society along with Civil Liability and Use of Force.
Pre-operational planning, logistics, crowd control overview, building, and room entry are taught and practiced numerous times during the week cumulating in a simulated real-world mission at the end of the training evolution. Officer Survival is paramount and is covered during all phases of training. Role players and simmunitions are used to provide as realistic training as safely possible.
Live fire exercises will be conducted on Thursday.
Requirements
- Certified Officer with Departmental approval for attendance.
- Handgun, at least 2 magazines, 100 rounds of ammo, and a good holster.
- Long gun with sling, 250 rounds of ammo.
- All issued equipment to include a camouflage uniform.
- Eye protection.
- Ear protection if you have your own, otherwise can be issued here.
This is a very strenuous course with lots of hands-on and outside physical activity. Physical fitness is important in officer survival and being a SWAT Operator. The student needs to be able to complete the training mission and being in good physical shape will assist in this endeavor.
