The Columbia Law Enforcement Training Academy Firearms Instructor Development Program will equip certified, experienced law enforcement officers with the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively teach and train their students in Law Enforcement Firearms (Patrol Rifle).

Requirements

  • Minimum three years law enforcement, military, or security experience with departmental approval for attendance
  • Patrol rifle with a sling
  • Standard duty semi-automatic handgun and holster, with a minimum of two (2) magazines and magazine pouch.
  • 800 rounds of rifle ammo
  • 150 rounds of handgun ammo
  • Eye and ear protection

Instructor

Jason Kessler is a 24-year veteran of law enforcement. He has taught law enforcement firearms handling for 20 years and is a master firearms instructor. Kessler is a graduate of the Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Academy and is currently employed as a patrol lieutenant with the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office and is a lead instructor on Lamar County’s training staff. He is also a staff instructor with Columbia Law Enforcement Training Academy.
